ABOUT
I have a lifetimes boating experience and had previously been the principal of my own R.Y.A. sailing school. I have completed over 10,000 nautical miles in my own boats and fully fitted out my present boat from a bare hull.
I qualified as a surveyor at the International Boatbuilding College in Lowestoft. I am a member of the BMSE, a surveyors group that shares information to keep up to date and we help each other to resolve any technical issues. I also am an affiliate member of the Y.D.S.A. which is the foremost regulatory body for surveyors in the UK and all my surveys are carried out under their standard terms and conditions. For General Condition Surveys I carry out over 35 non destructive tests and my comprehensive reports aim to give a clear overview of the boat including advice for future repairs and maintenance.
A General Condition Survey is carried out over two days, one to complete the survey and one to write the report. If possible I like to write the report at the boat, working from my mobile office and this usually enables a discussion with a prospective purchaser on the boat, which can be very useful. I offer a "Hand Holding" service for novice boat purchasers, completing the full condition survey with a verbal report only. This offers a considerable reduction in the cost until the right boat is located. The full written report can then be completed for purchase negotiations or insurance requirements.
I accept that living in Nottingham, travelling costs are my responsibility so although I may not be the nearest surveyor, travel will not necessarily make me more expensive. My location does mean that I can reach both coasts quickly and easily and I aim to be available at short notice. Please see the Terms & Conditions page for survey details. Mikes Boat - Rocking Horse
